Malaysia to initiate safeguard duty investigation on hot rolled coil imports

Malaysia's Ministry of International Trade and Industry has announced that it will launch a safeguard duty investigation on hot rolled coil imports on September 11, following a petition from a domestic producer claiming that the imports in question are causing material injury to the domestic industry in Malaysia
 
According to the ministry’s statement, the imports of the mentioned hot rolled steel products have increased 16 percent from 694,306 mt in 2012 to 807,647 mt in 2013, while in 2014, the imports of the products have increased by 11 percent. 
 
The products subject to safeguard duty investigation currently fall under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 7208.36.00, 7208.37.00, 7208.38.00, 7208.39.20, 7209.18.90, 7208.39.90 and 7225.30.00.
