The Russian iron ore and steel producing company Metalloinvest Holding (Metalloinvest) has announced that its mining subsidiary Lebedinsky GOK plans to increase in December its shipments of hot briquetted iron (HBI) by 50 percent month on month. During the first 20 days of December, Lebedinsky GOK's deliveries amounted to 99,000 mt of HBI, which had already exceeded the November figures.

Lebedinsky GOK is the only producer of HBI in Europe. Last year the plant commissioned a new 1.4 million mt annual capacity HBI production facility, supplied by Siemens Metals Technologies and Midrex Technology. Lebedinsky's HBI is a premium quality, high density steel industry raw material containing 90 percent total iron (Fe) in a nearly pure form.
