Korea Steel Shapes Co. (KOSCO), a South Korean electric arc furnace-based steelworks, has stated that it is developing new grades of steel for production of high value-added steel products.

KOSCO has been continuously testing its new molten iron turned out by its electric arc furnace commissioned in 2009 for the production of materials necessary for the company to produce new grades of steel.

As a result, the company expects to start commercial production soon of AH32 and AH36 steel grades used for shipbuilding steel, in addition to S45c grade suitable for tool steel.

Besides, KOSCO has finished its development of SD500W grade steel necessary for production of billets used in special rebars with strong weldability. Meanwhile, it has increased its billet sizes up to 180 x 220 mm and has extended the length of its unequal angles and flat bars for shipbuilding.
