Kazakhstan-based steel producer Caspian Stal has commissioned in Aktau, Kazakhstan a new steel plant with an annual production capacity of 300,000 mt of steel, including billet, rebar and rolled steel products.

The construction of Caspian Stal's new steel plant was financed by Kazakhstan's Bank TuranAlem JSC (BTA Bank), at a cost amounting to $47.5 million.

During the first year of operation, Caspian Stal plans to reach the output of 72 percent of the plant's total capacity, increasing billet and rebar output to 168,000 mt and 48,000 mt respectively. The plant will employ more than 500 people.

"The new steel plant in Aktau is unique, as it is designed to use different types of raw materials: from various kinds of scrap to special metallized pellets used by big steelmakers for the production of high quality steel. The plant is also equipped with environment-protecting technologies, which will allow it to reduce emissions and to use the soot obtained during the production process for manufacturing material for paving roads," BTA Bank's customer relations manager Ruslan Sakhipov stated.
