Kardemir reaches 3.5 million mt continuous casting capacity

Turkish integrated long steel producer Kardemir Karabuk Demir Celik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Kardemir) has announced that it has finished the construction of its fourth continuous casting machine which has a capacity of 1.25 million mt per year and has launched it after five months of construction and installation activities.

Kardemir said that, after this new continuous casting machine started operation, the company’s continuous casting capacity has reached the target of 3.5 million mt.

Stating that in the last 45 days blast furnace No. 4 has been upgraded with a higher capacity, a new lime plant has been modernized with higher capacity and several 120 mt converters have been put into operation, the company’s general director Hüseyin Soykan said, with the fourth continuous casting machine that has started operation recently, the company has realized an investment of about TRY 300 million ($52.23 million) and that thanks to this new casting machine 100 new job positions have been created.

Soykan also said that, after the completion of the blast furnace No. 6 in 2021, the company will be able to reach the target of producing 3.5 million mt of crude steel per year.
