According to the data released by the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japanese pig iron production in June this year totaled 6.9 million metric tons, increasing by 35.3 percent year on year and down 3.7 percent compared to May. Meanwhile, the country's crude steel production in June amounted to 9.35 million metric tons, up 35.9 percent year on year and falling by 3.8 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, in the first half of 2010, the country's pig iron output stood at 40.82 million metric tons, and its crude steel production came to 54.57 million metric tons, with increases of 41.5 percent and 41.4 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
In June, Japan's steel section production amounted to 482,000 metric tons, down 5.3 percent, its bar production came to 817,500 metric tons, down 3.3 percent, its wire rod output was 168,300 mt, up 7.6 percent, heavy plate output reached one million metric tons, down five percent, HR wide strip production was 4.03 million mt, up 1.2 percent, CR wide strip output amounted to 1.95 million mt, up 0.7 percent, galvanized sheet production totaled 1.17 million metric tons, up 4.5 percent and welded pipe output was 314,800 metric tons, increasing by 1.9 percent, all compared to May.
