According to the data released by the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japanese pig iron production in June this year totaled 6.66 million metric tons, decreasing by 2.6 percent year on year and down 1.65 percent compared to May. Meanwhile, the country's crude steel production in June amounted to 8.88 million metric tons, down five percent year on year and falling by 1.8 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, in the first half of 2011, the country's pig iron output stood at 40.28 million metric tons with a decrease of 1.2 percent, and its crude steel production came to 54.07 million metric tons, with a decrease of 0.9 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
In June, Japan's steel section production amounted to 455,100 metric tons, down 14.7 percent, its bar production came to 761,600 metric tons, down 8.9 percent, its wire rod output was 133,000 mt, down 12.3 percent, heavy plate output reached 1.02 million metric tons, down 7.5 percent, HR wide strip production was 3.67 million mt, up 6.5 percent, CR wide strip output amounted to 1.77 million mt, up 5.6 percent, galvanized sheet production totaled 1.02 million metric tons, up 10.3 percent and welded pipe output was 316,800 metric tons, increasing by 0.1 percent, all compared to May.
