Italy's steel exports to non-EU countries up 1.4 percent in Jan-July

In the January-July period this year, Italy's steel imports from non-European Union (EU) countries totaled 7.072 million metric tons, up 10.2 percent, while its steel exports to non-EU destinations amounted to 2.454 million metric tons, up 1.4 percent, both year on year, as announced by Italian steel producers association Federacciai.

In particular, import of long products from non-EU countries in the first seven months of 2018 increased by 64 percent year on year, mainly due to an increase in wire rod imports, which were up 29.1 percent year on year to 220,000 mt. Flat steel imports in the same period rose by 5.9 percent year on year.

Concerning Italian exports to non-EU countries in the first seven months of 2018, long product exports increased by 8.5 percent, while flat product exports decreased by 11 percent, year on year. In particular, rebar exports rose by 36.6 percent to 362,000 mt, while steel coil exports decreased by 30 percent to 70,000 mt, year on year.
