Italy's steel exports to non-EU countries down 6.1 percent in Jan-Nov

In the January-November period last year, Italy's steel imports from non-European Union (EU) countries totaled 10.462 million metric tons, up 10.2 percent, while its steel exports to non-EU destinations amounted to 4.018 million metric tons, down 6.1 percent, both year on year, as announced by the Italian steel producers association Federacciai.

In particular, imports of long products from non-EU countries in the first 11 months of 2018 increased by 47.6 percent year on year, mainly due to an increase in wire rod imports, which were up 30.1 percent year on year to 354,000 mt and a rise in merchant bar imports, totaling 294,000 mt, up 69 percent year on year. Flat steel imports in the same period rose by 9.9 percent year on year. Among the most imported flat steel products from non-EU countries in the given period were cold rolled plate (814,000 mt) and hot dip galvanized plate (701,000 mt).

Concerning Italian exports to non-EU countries in the first 11 months of 2018, long product exports decreased by 15.2 percent, while flat product exports declined by 12.4 percent, year on year. In particular, rebar exports decreased by 24.1 percent to 524,000 mt, wire rod exports increased by 0.5 percent to 384,000 mt, steel coil exports decreased by 18.1 percent to 136,000 mt, while bar exports rose by 8.5 percent to 102,000 mt, all year on year.
