Italy’s steel exports rise by 21.8 percent in January

According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in January 2010 Italy's steel product imports reached 1.01 million metric tons, decreasing by 1.5 percent, while its steel product exports totaled 1.07 million metric tons, up 21.8 percent, both compared to January 2009.

In the month in question, Italy's semi-finished steel imports reached 246,000 metric tons, down 6.8 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the country's semi-finished steel exports amounted to 56,000 metric tons, up 64.7 percent year on year.

In January, Italy's imports of long products decreased by 11.4 percent to 132,000 metric tons, while its long product exports totaled 213,000 metric tons, down 8.6 percent, both year on year.

On the other hand, in the given month, Italy's flat product imports reached 555,000 metric tons, up 11.4 percent year on year, while its flat product exports amounted to 476,000 metric tons, with a year-on-year increase of 57.6 percent.
