Italy’s steel exports rise 15 percent in January-February

According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the first two months of the current year Italy's total steel imports reached 3.2 million metric tons, increasing by 32.5 percent, while its steel exports totaled 2.72 million metric tons, up 15 percent, both compared to Jan-Feb 2010.

In the period in question, Italy's semi-finished steel product imports reached 706,000 metric tons, up 54.1 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the country's semi-finished steel product exports amounted to 119,000 metric tons, down 19 percent year on year.

In the given period, Italy's imports of long products increased by 38.4 percent to 443,000 metric tons, while its long product exports totaled 509,000 metric tons, up 4.7 percent, both year on year.

On the other hand, in January-February Italy's flat steel imports reached 1.81 million metric tons, up 25 percent year on year, while its flat product exports amounted to 1.16 million metric tons, with a year-on-year increase of 15.5 percent.
