Italy’s industrial output index drops down in January

According to ISTAT, Italy's national statistics office, in January this year the seasonally adjusted index of Italian industrial production dipped by 2.5 percent compared to December 2011 and sank by five percent compared to January 2011 when we consider the data adjusted for calendar effects.

Meanwhile, for the November 2011-January 2012 quarter Italy's industrial production decreased by an average 1.9 percent compared to the preceding three-month period.

In January, the seasonally adjusted index decreased substantially year-on-year in all industrial sectors: by 5.9 percent for energy, 5.8 percent for consumer goods, 5.4 percent for intermediate goods and 4.2 percent for instrumental goods.
