According to the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the first eight months of current year Italy's steel exports to European Union (EU) countries reached 8.312 million metric tons, up 2.6 percent, while its steel imports from EU countries totaled 5.409 million metric tons, down 7.9 percent, both compared to the same period of 2011.
Both on the import and on the export side, only flat steel products recorded positive year-on-year variations in the January-August period this year, up respectively by 0.7 and 8.4 percent. For all the other categories, steel trade between Italy and other EU-27 countries decreased compared to January-August 2011.
