According to the report ‘Recycle in Italy 2011' by FISE UNIRE, the Italian industrial association representing enterprises involved in waste recycling, in 2010 almost 34 million mt of various waste materials were recycled in Italy.

According to the report, 2010 was a positive year for the Italian recycling sector compared to the difficult year of 2009 which had seen a decrease of 25 percent in recycled volumes. In 2010, five out of six categories of scrap indicated increases in recycled volumes, led by ferrous scrap with a 67.9 percent rise year on year.

However, as 2011 draws to a close, scrap recycling in Italy appears to be on the wane again.
