Iscor appeals government to restore duties on imported steel products

South African steel producer Iscor has recently appealed government to restore duties on hot rolled coil and sheet imported from Russia and Ukraine that have been in effect for the last five years. In its petition, Iscor claimed that unless the duties are restored, sales of subject merchandise imported from Russia and Ukraine, being effected at less than fair value in domestic market will cause material injury to South African industry. Under South Africa's International Trade Administration Commission rules, anti-dumping duties are reviewed after five years and put in place or terminated according to the investigation results. The investigation, which will be conducted to determine whether imports of subject goods from Ukraine and Russia lead to unfair trade, is expected to last 16 months.
