Iron ore exports via Port Hedland down 10.3 percent in Jan from Dec

In January this year, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland decreased by 10.3 percent compared to December and were down 8.14 percent year on year, totaling 33.77 million metric tons. 
 
According to the information released by Port Hedland Port Authority, in January of the current year iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 26.51 million metric tons, falling by 17.57 percent compared to the previous month and down 12.06 percent year on year. Japan and South Korea followed China in December, receiving 1.85 million mt and 2.36 million mt respectively. 
 
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
