On Monday, October 27, Iranian vice president Parviz Davoudi officially inaugurated Iran's first coking plant at the city of Zarand in the central Iranian province of Kerman.

The new plant, on which construction commenced in 2002, has a designed annual capacity of 400,000 mt and is expected to create 1,500 job opportunities. The plant has the advantage of being located near Zarand coal mine which holds one of the main deposits of coal in Iran.

The new coking plant is expected to meet the demands of Iranian steel factories and their affiliated industries and, thereby, to make the country self-sufficient in coke production.
