India’s scrap imports hit 4.26 million mt in first ten months

According to provisional customs data, India imported 4.26 million mt of ferrous scrap in the January to October 2018 period. SteelOrbis previously reported ferrous scrap imports of 2.92 million mt in the first seven months of 2018, therefore, approximately 1.34 million mt was imported in the August, September and October months. India imported 1.93 million mt of ferrous scrap in the first five months of 2018 and 2.33 million mt in the second five-month period.

The scrap was imported from the UAE (0.88 million mt, 21 percent), the US (0.54 million mt, 13 percent), the UK (0.45 million mt, 11 percent), Singapore (0.33 million mt, 8 percent), South Africa (0.29 million mt, 7 percent), Australia (0.14 million mt, 3 percent), Togo (0.12 million mt, 3 percent), Belgium (0.11 million mt, 3 percent) and other sources (1.40 million mt, 33 percent).
