India’s RINL commissions new caster unit

Indian government-owned Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) has commissioned a new caster entailing an investment of around $34 million, a company official said on Friday, February 23.

The official said that the caster No. 4 at RINL’s steel mill located in the southern Indian port town of Vishakhapatnam marked the completion of the $615 million modernization of the plant.

The caster No. 4 of its steel melt shop No. 2 can produce one million metric tons of rounds and blooms per year and part of the production will be for supplies to RINL's greenfield plant for manufacture of forged wheels currently under construction in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, the official added.

The completion of the modernization of the plant with commissioning of the caster plant also marks the total capacity increase of RINL's plants from 6.3 million mt to per year to 7.3 million mt per year.
