India’s Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) on Monday, April 22, completed delivery of 97,400 mt of steel rails to state-run transporter Indian Railways, a company statement said on Wednesday, April 24.

The order placed with JSPL was the first time that Indian Railways sourced its requirement of steel rails from a private sector steel company, the statement said.

The order was won by JSPL in July 2018 in a global tender and the final consignment was delivered to the customer on April 22 from the company’s Raigarh steel mill, the statement said.

JSPL stated that it is the only domestic producer of head-hardened rails and that it has the capability to manufacture a single piece rail of 121 meters in length, which can be extended to 260 meters with two welds.
