According to India’s preliminary custom data, the first two months of 2018 have encountered a considerable reduction in pellet exports from India. From June through December of 2017, India’s pellet exports exceeded or equaled the volume exported in the prior year’s respective month.

In 2018, India exported 0.64 million mt of pellet in January while it exported 0.58 million mt of pellet in February. Compared to 2017 totals of 1.17 million mt in January and 0.78 million mt in February, , exports decreased this year 45 percent and 26 percent, respectively, month-on-month.

A source stated, “With average exports of 0.61 million mt in March through June last year, it is hard to expect an average above 0.50 million mt of pellet exports from now until June of 2018.”
