Indian car sales up 8.2% in January

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said that Indian domestic passenger car sales rose 8.2% year-on-year in January to 77'743 units from 71'867 units. Passenger car sales totaled 668'353 units for the April-January 2004/05 period, up 20.2% from 555'886 units. Commercial vehicle sales rose 17.8% year-on-year in January to 29'630 units. Sales during the first ten months of the current fiscal soared 24.6% to 252'933 units. According to the SIAM data, motorcycle sales in January climbed 22.8% to 435'665 units from 354'640 units in the same period last year. Sales in April-January 2004/05 period were up 19.4% to 4.10 million units.
