The economic data presented by the special administrators of Ilva for 2015 shows that the Italian steelmaker’s production remained below 5 million mt. Taranto plant’s production declined from 5.9 million mt in 2014 to 4.7 million mt in 2015. The significant output decline affected the company’s EBITDA as well. Ilva registered a negative EBITDA at -€382 million, compared to -€296 million in 2014 indicating that the company lost €31.8 million per month. EBITDA was also affected by the decline in margins due to price erosion caused by excessive import volumes.

The only improvement was the increase in share of value added production. In 2015, despite the significant drop in production volumes, the share of higher added value production increased to 70 percent from 60 percent in 2014.
