In order to alleviate electricity supply shortages, the authorities in the Chinese province of Hunan have ordered the suspension of production operations of all ferroalloy smelters in the province for a period of at least two weeks.

The suspended mills have a combined annual ferrochrome output capacity of 50,000 mt. Hunan Ferroalloy Association has stated that, because of the electricity supply shortage, all the ferroalloy smelters in the province were ordered to shut down production as of May 1.

The association also added that, given the current situation, it was difficult to tell how long the suspension would last even though the specified period was two weeks.
