Iranian steelmaker Hormozgan Steel is to commission production at its two new direct reduced iron (DRI) modules early next year, in January and April respectively, each using Midrex technology and having an annual capacity of 825,000 mt per year. Meanwhile, the producer's new steelmaking plant is due to commence production in June 2009.

Hormozgan Steel, based near Iran's main southern port of Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf, has a capacity of 1.5 million mt of crude steel (i.e. slab) which will be doubled in the next development phase. The location of Hormozgan Steel in the Persian Gulf provides easy access to the export markets.
