Vietnam-based steel producer Hoa Phat Group has announced that its subsidiary Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Joint Stock Company has launched the second phase of its rooftop solar project in cooperation with Horus Power Joint Stock Company.
The initiative forms part of the company’s broader strategy to increase energy self-sufficiency, reduce production costs and lower carbon emissions across its steelmaking operations.
Second phase adds 22.5 MWp capacity
The second phase of the project has an installed capacity of 22.5 MWp and is expected to generate approximately 32.8 million kWh of electricity annually. Solar panels are being installed across multiple facilities within the complex, including rolling mills, the hot rolled coil production unit, warehouses and water treatment systems.
The full rooftop solar project represents an investment of nearly VND 600 billion ($22.70 million) and is structured in five phases. Once completed by the second quarter of 2027, the project will reach a total installed capacity of 79.2 MWp and generate more than 115 million kWh of electricity annually.
Upon full completion, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 78,000 mt per year. The second phase alone is projected to cut emissions by over 22,000 mt annually, supporting Hoa Phat’s decarbonization strategy.
Supporting competitiveness in export markets
The first phase of the project, with a capacity of 5 MWp, was completed in November 2025. With the second phase now underway, Hoa Phat aims to further increase the share of renewable energy in its production processes.
The company stated that improving energy efficiency and lowering emissions will enhance its competitiveness, particularly in export markets such as the EU, where carbon-related regulations are becoming increasingly important.
