Gujarat NRE Coke commissions new steel plant

India-based metallurgical coke company Gujarat NRE Coke, announced the commencement of commercial production at its new steel plant set up in Kutch, India. The plant which has been set up with nearly Rupee 500 million ($11 million) will manufacture billets, blooms, ingots and hot rolled products. The annual production capacity of the plant is estimated to be around 300,000 metric tons. The plant hammers scrap, sponge iron and ferroalloy as raw materials. Gujarat NRE Coke is also building a captive power plant with 20 MW capacity. The steel plant and power plant are adjacent to the Gujarat NRE Coke's coke manufacturing facility at Bhachau Unit. The power plant will use the waste heat generated by coke oven plant, which will lead to substantial savings in power cost.
