Global DRI output rises 14.5 percent in January

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.7 million metric tons in January this year, increasing by 14.5 percent year on year and falling by 0.7 percent month on month. 
 
The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in January this year. Iran’s DRI output was 1.32 million metric tons in the given month. Iran was followed by India, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in January, with estimated outputs of 1.25 million mt, 415,000 mt and 408,000 mt respectively.
