Global crude steel output for October 2005
In line with the figures released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), world crude steel production for the 61 countries reporting to the IISI was estimated to be 96.6 million metric tons (mmt) in October 2005, which marks a 4.6 percent increase as compared to the same month of 2004. The figure was 92.2 mmt in September 2005. China, with production of 31.7 mmt of crude steel in October, was again the largest crude steel producing country. Year-to-date production reached 286.8 mmt, up 26.5 percent from a year earlier. Total production in the Asia region was 50.6 mmt in October, an increase of 12.1 percent on October 2004. Crude steel production in 25 member countries of European Union (EU) amounted to 16.4 mmt in October, down 2.5 percent compared to the same month last year. France produced 1.7 mmt of crude steel in October, 0.6 percent higher than the same month in 2004. Germany produced 4.1 mmt of crude steel in October, 5.6 percent higher than in October 2004. Crude steel production in the US was 8.0 mmt in October. This is a decrease of 7.6 percent compared to October 2004.
