Glencore Xstrata officially opens new coal port in Colombia

International commodities producer and trader Glencore Xstrata has announced that its Columbian operation Prodeco's new coal port Puerto Nuevo in Colombia has been officially opened.

Glencore started the construction of Puerto Nuevo in 2010, investing a total of $550 million. The state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment in use at Puerto Nuevo represents a key milestone in the development of the Colombian coal industry. The port's initial annual export capacity will be approximately 21 million mt, with the coal being transported to markets including North America, Europe and Asia.
