German crude steel output sees strong fall in August due to repair works

In August this year, Germany's crude steel output amounted to 3.2 million metric tons, decreasing 6.3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the information provided by the German steel federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WV Stahl). The strong decrease in the output was caused by production halts due to repair works.
 
In addition, in the first eight months of 2013 Germany's crude steel output amounted to 28.12 million mt, down 2.6 percent compared to the same period of 2012.
 
On the other hand, in the first seven months this year Germany's total hot rolled steel product output amounted to 21.65 million metric tons, decreasing by 1.1 percent year on year, including 14.2 million metric tons of flat steel products - down 1.9 percent year on year, and 7.46 million metric tons of long steel products - up 0.4 percent year on year.
