Gerdau’s Peruvian steelmaker Siderperu is using liquefied natural gas (LNG) to run its steelmaking operations, a local media report said this week.

According to Peruvian newspaper Gestion, the use of LNG indicates the company’s new move to change its energy sources. Siderperu was previously using compressed natural gas (CNG). Prior to 2011, the company used petroleum to run its operations.

The shift to LNG will reportedly allow Siderperu to store more energy, increase energy sufficiency and reduce costs.
