French crude steel production amounted to 1,374,000 metric tons in October, rising slightly by 0.3 percent year on year and up 9.3 percent as compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the French Steel Federation (FFA).
In October, steel production in France using electric arc furnaces (EAF) rose 2.3 percent reaching 578,350 metric tons, while steel production with blast furnace (BF) technology totaled 795,600 metric tons in October, down 1.1 percent, both compared to October 2009.
Meanwhile, in the first ten months of 2010, crude steel production in France stood at 13 million metric tons, increasing by 24.7 percent as compared with the corresponding period of 2009. In the period in question, production using EAFs increased by 5.8 percent, while BF steel production rose 38.5 percent, reaching 4,667,300 metric tons and 8,331,800 metric tons respectively, both compared to January-October 2009.
The FFA also noted that domestic crude steel production in the first ten months of the year was 20 percent below the January-October 2008 production figures.
