The Russian mining and steel producing company Evraz Group (Evraz) has announced the installation and commissioning of the new iron ore crushing and sorting equipment at its iron ore producing subsidiary Vysokogorsky GOK (VGOK).
The new equipment was commissioned at VGOK's production site in Kuvsha, and is designed for the crushing and sorting of about two million metric tons of iron ore a year prior to enrichment. This crushed and sorted iron ore will subsequently be supplied to VGOK's enrichment facility, where it will be processed into about 500,000 metric tons of sintering ore with an iron content of more than 57 percent.
In addition, the installation of the new equipment will allow VGOK to reduce its use of electrical energy in the ore preparation phase by one million kilowatts per hour, and consequently will reduce sintering ore production costs.
The installation works were completed within a three-month period.
The main supplier of the equipment was Swiss company Sandvik.
