Luxembourg-headquartered steel tube producer Tenaris has announced that it will coordinate a project that aims to increase the circularity and sustainability of the EU steel industry.
A consortium including Tenaris, Tenova, Voestalpine, Thyssenkrupp, Tata Steel Nederland, CELSA and other European companies will develop the project called ReMFra, which aims to recover metals and mineral fractions from steelmaking waste. The consortium partners will work together for 3.5 years to develop two highly efficient pyrometallurgic melting and reduction demonstration plants.
“This experience will certainly be useful for reducing the consumption of non-renewable resources and therefore Europe’s reliance on foreign supplies,” Fabio Praolini, environment regional director at Tenaris, said.
