The European Steel Association (EUROFER) has evaluated the US’ applying a preliminary antidumping (AD) duty to cold rolled coil (CRC) steel from China of up to 265.79 percent in response to the uncontrolled rise of dumped products from the country, stating that this is in contrast to the provisional 13-16 percent antidumping tariff applied to cold rolled coil products by the EU in February of this year, which are insufficient to remedy or deter dumping from China.
EUROFER director general Axel Eggert commented that the US vigorously reestablishes a level playing field for its domestic steel industry against massive Chinese dumping with antidumping duty of 265.79 percent. Meanwhile, the EU again proves its inability to defend its strategic sectors, with tariffs as low as 13 percent for identical products, added Mr Eggert. He also pointed out that such low antidumping duty levels do not sufficiently capture the injury suffered by the European steel industry, making the continued application of the lesser duty rule unnecessarily damaging. Mr. Eggert said that continued member state opposition to the lifting of the lesser duty rule shows that many EU governments are neglecting the impact of this rule.
