Euro area construction output down 0.5 percent in June from May

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in June this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 0.2 percent compared to May and rose by 3.6 percent compared to the same month of 2016. In May, production fell 0.5 percent compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in June decreased by 0.5 percent month on month and rose by 3.4 percent year on year. In May, production had fallen by 0.2 percent compared to April, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-28 in June decreased by 0.3 percent month on month and was up four percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 0.2 percent from April and was up by 2.9 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction decreased by 0.4 percent month on month and was up 3.9 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 0.5 percent month on month and rose by 1.2 percent year on year.

As compared to June last year, construction output in June this year increased by 27.2 percent in Hungary, by 21.2 percent in Slovenia, by 17.3 percent in Sweden and by 13.4 percent in Poland, while a decrease of 6.3 percent was registered in Romania and a decline of 0.5 percent was registered in Slovakia.

As compared to May, construction output in June this year decreased by 1.0 percent in Germany, by 0.7 percent in Belgium and France and by 0.2 percent in the United Kingdom, while construction output increased by 12.1 percent in Slovenia, by 2.2 percent in Spain and Slovakia, and by 2.1 percent in Poland.
