As of June 3, Russia utilized 40.6 percent of the steel quota allocated to it by the European Union (EU), while Ukraine utilized 41.9 percent of its EU quota. On the other hand, Kazakhstan utilized 43 percent of its allocation.
According to the latest statistics, Russia exported a total of 1.229 tons of steel products to the EU in the period of up to June 3, 2008. The quota allocated to Russia for 2008 is 3,031,000 tons.
Specifically, Russia used 53.64 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (555,181 of 1,035,090 allotted tons), 37.11 percent of its plate quota (129,560 of 275,000 allotted tons), 16.52 percent of its alloy sheet quota (17,347 of 105,000 allotted tons), and 18.05 percent of its wire rod quota (58,480 of 324,000 allotted tons).
With regard to Ukraine, it exported a total of 566,740 tons of steel products to the EU in the period from January 1 to June 3, 2008, filling 41.9 percent of its revised quota of 1,353,000 tons for 2008.
When the figures are broken down, we see that Ukraine filled 27.03 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (52,642 of 194,750 allotted tons), 43.87 percent of its heavy plate quota (175,365 of 399,750 allotted tons), 53.76 percent of its beam quota (27,553 of 51,250 allotted tons), and 59.40 percent of its wire rod quota (118,723 of 199,875 allotted tons).
Finally, Kazakhstan filled 43.00 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (37,464 of 87,125 allotted tons).
