During the first seven months of 2008, Russia utilized 51.6 percent of the steel quota allocated to it by the European Union (EU), while Kazakhstan utilized 69.86 percent of its EU quota.
According to the latest statistics, Russia exported a total of 1,564,000 tons of steel products to the EU in the period in question. The quota allocated to Russia for 2008 is 3,031,000 tons.
Specifically, Russia used 67.75 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (701,198 of 1,035,090 allotted tons), 57.95 percent of its plate quota (159,355 of 275,000 allotted tons), 18.8 percent of its alloy sheet quota (19,742 of 105,000 allotted tons), and 33.67 percent of its wire rod quota (109,080 of 324,000 allotted tons).
On the other hand, Kazakhstan filled 69.86 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (60,869 of 87,125 allotted tons).
