EU new car registrations up 6.9 percent in April

In April this year, new car registrations totaled 1,166,482 units in the European Union (EU), with an increase of 6.9 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). Registrations in April increased for the 20th consecutive month on year-on-year basis.

In April, Italy (+24.2 percent), Germany (+6.3 percent), the UK (+5.1 percent), Spain (+3.2 percent) and France (+2.3 percent) were the major EU markets which recorded increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, in the January-April period new passenger car registrations increased to 4,695,058 units, up 8.2 percent year on year. All major markets posted growth and contributed to the overall upturn of the EU market. In this period, Spain saw an increase of 23.9 percent and Italy saw an increase of 16.2 percent, while new passenger car registrations in the UK and Germany both rose by 6.4 percent, with registrations in France rising by 5.6 percent, all year-on-year basis.
