EU commercial vehicle registrations increase over summer

New commercial vehicle registrations across the EU increased by three percent in July and by 15.7 percent in August compared to same months of last year, leading to an 8.3 percent increase over the two summer months compared to the same period last year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).

In January-August period of this year, a total of 1,144,265 new vehicles were registered in the EU-27, or up 12.1 percent from the same period a year ago. Looking at new registrations in the major markets in the EU-27 region in the first eight months of the year, Spain (-6.3 percent) was the only market to see a decline, while Germany (+23.3 percent), the UK (+21.1 percent) and France (+6.4 percent) indicated expansions.

All major markets in the EU-27 posted strong growth in the new heavy commercial vehicles market, leading to an overall year-on-year increase of 52.4 percent. From January to August, 138,410 new trucks were registered in the EU-27, or 49.4 percent more than in the same period last year. In the meantime, new registrations of buses and coaches slipped by 1.5 percent year on year in January-August, totaling 21,994 units.
