EU annual inflation at three percent in December

Annual inflation in the European Union was three percent in December 2011, down from a revised 3.4 percent in November, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In December 2010, the annual inflation rate was registered as 2.7 percent. Meanwhile, monthly inflation was 0.3 percent in December 2011.
 
In December, the lowest annual inflation rates were observed in Sweden with 0.4 percent, in Malta with 1.3 percent and in Bulgaria with two percent, while the highest were seen in Slovakia with 4.6 percent, in Poland with 4.5 percent and in Cyprus with 4.2 percent.
 
The lowest 12-month averages up to the end of December 2011 were registered in Sweden at 1.4 percent, and in Slovenia and the Czech Republic both at 2.1 percent, while the highest were recorded in Romania at 5.8 percent, in Estonia at 5.1 percent and in Latvia with 4.2 percent.
