EU-28 construction output decreases further in June

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in June this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 0.3 percent as compared to May and was down 0.5 percent compared to the same month of 2013. In May, production had decreased by 1.4 percent compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in June of the current year decreased by 0.3 percent month on month, while declining by 2.3 percent compared to June 2013. In May, production had decreased by 1.4 percent in the euro area compared to April, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-28 in June decreased by 0.5 percent month on month and declined by 0.2 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 0.2 percent from May and was down 2.7 percent year on year.

As compared to May, construction output in June increased in Poland by 2.7 percent, in Germany by 1.2 percent, in both the Czech Republic and the UK by 1.1 percent, while a decrease of 7.5 percent was registered in Hungary, a decline of 2.9 percent was recorded in Spain, a decrease of 2.6 percent was registered in Romania and a drop of 2.3 percent was registered in Slovakia

As compared to June 2013, construction output in June of the current year increased in Slovenia by 28.7 percent, in Hungary by 9.8 percent, in Poland by eight percent and in Spain by 6.8 percent, while a decrease of 13.1 percent was registered in Romania, a decline of 10.3 percent was recorded in Portugal, a fall of five percent was seen in Slovakia and a decline of 3.5 percent was witnessed in the Netherlands
