According to a statement released on August 24 by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, the new industrial orders index in the European Union member states (EU-27) fell by 0.3 percent month on month in June, after a revised month-on-month increase of 1.2 percent recorded in May. The year-on-year increase in June was recorded at 8.5 percent in the region.
On the other hand, in June new industrial orders in the EU-27, excluding ships, railway and aerospace equipment for which changes tend to be more volatile, decreased by 2.2 percent month on month and rose by 6.3 percent year on year.
In the EU-27 in the given month, new orders rose by 4.4 percent for capital goods, rose by 0.3 percent for durable consumer goods and fell by 4.4 percent for intermediate goods, all compared to May.
On month-on-month basis, among the member states for which data are available, total new industrial orders fell in 12 member states and rose in nine others. The largest decreases were registered in Sweden with 10.5 percent, in Estonia with 9.8 percent and in Hungary with 9.7 percent, while the highest increases were seen in Denmark with 19.2 percent, in Latvia with 15.7 percent and in France with 13.8 percent.
