EU-27 construction output down 1.1 percent in September over August

According to the initial estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in September the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) decreased by 1.1 percent month on month and was down 9.4 percent compared to September 2008. In August, the production figure had fallen by 0.1 percent compared to July.

In the month in question, building construction decreased by 1.6 percent month on month and was down 12.6 percent compared to September 2008, while civil engineering output dropped by 0.3 percent over August but was up 4.7 percent year on year.

As compared to August this year, construction output in September rose in the Czech Republic by 2.4 percent, in Romania by two percent and in Spain by 1.5 percent, while year-on-year increases of 5.7 percent, 2.6 percent and  4.9 percent respectively were registered in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany.
