Essar to build steel plant in Trinidad & Tobago

Essar Global, the overseas investment unit of India's Essar Group, announced plans to build an integrated steel plant in Trinidad and Tobago with an investment of $1.2 billion. The plant will be commissioned by the end of 2006. In the first stage of the project, an investment of $450 million will be made in a pellet plant and a hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant. Regarding the project, newly- appointed Indian high commissioner Jagjit Singh Sapra on Thursday said, “Projects like this would signify a new chapter in India-Trinidad economic, commercial relations and would serve to project India's growing capabilities.”
