Erdemir reports record production and sales

Turkey's Eregli Demir Celik Fabrikalari (Erdemir) produced 3'616'165 tons of product in 2004, breaking the record of 3'535'000 tons set in 2003. Value added cold rolled products accounted for 1'651'465 tons of the company's production in 2004. Due to the increase in production, the company set a record in metallurgical coke production, reloading its coking factory furnace 81'578 times in 2004. The previous record was 80'818 times in 1995. Not to be left behind, the company also set a record in sintering ore production. 2004 saw 2'040'570 tons produced, breaking the record of 2'035'475 achieved in 2003. The sinter plant recycled 331'859 tons of waste. Production was not the only area where Erdemir set records. The company recorded sales of 3'604'051 tons in 2004, up from 3'556'000 tons in 2003. Steel production of Turkey increased 11.9% in 2004, totaling 20.5 million tons. Works regarding the privatization of Erdemir are still ongoing.
