Erdemir is set to increase production capacity

Turkish integrated flat steel producer Erdemir is planning to increase its production capacity to 4.5 million ton/year within 2 years. Furthermore, with the plans of converting Isdemir to flat production, the total annual production capacity of both mills will reach 7 million tons by 2007. Erdemir is planning to restructure its affiliate Isdemir, taken over in February 2002 and convert the integrated mill into a flat producer with an annual capacity of 3 million tons. This restructuring will complete in five years and will cost about $700 million. Erdemir also includes in its plans to establish a plate rolling mill with 400'000 ton annual capacity to produce thick and wide plate for usage in shipbuilding as well as plate to serve military purposes. Furthermore, the company is currently seeking possibilities to increase the efficiency and enlarge the scope of the services given by its service centres in the near future.
