Egypt terminates the anti-dumping investigation for Turkish rebar

Egypt Anti-Dumping, Subsidy and Safeguard Department terminated the anti-dumping investigation that started in October 2010 on rebar exports from Turkey to Egypt, on the grounds that no evidence was found on the existence of a causal link between the allegedly dumped imports and some of the indicators of injury suffered by the domestic industry.
 
As a result of the successful legal attempts and hard work by the Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade, Steel Exporters Association, and the Iron and Steel Producers Association, the hard work of industry members, as well as the impact of political developments in the country, it is stated that the anti-dumping investigation has been terminated pursuant to the decision published in the official gazette of Egypt dated July 7, 2011.
 
After the import volume reached $1.37 billion in 2009, Egyptian rebar producers requested an anti-dumping investigation regarding the imports from Turkey.
 
Namik Ekinci, Chairman of Steel Exporters Association, stated that export levels to Egypt dropped to $624 million in 2010 after the investigation and then to $267 million in the first six months of 2011. "In a short time, we will regain the market we lost due to the investigation" said Ekinci.
