Ege Celik to recommence production at full capacity after transformer fire

On July 12, 2003 a fire happened in Turkey's leading iron steel producer Ege Celik's Aliaga plant due to a failure in the transformer, causing damage in the electric system of the plant. As a result, production at the plant's two operating furnaces had to be stopped for one week. SteelOrbis is reported that production has restarted at one furnace on July 19, 2003. It is expected that the other furnace will be in operation by the end of this week. In line with these developments deliveries from Ege Celik had to stop for a while. Output from the production recommenced at one furnace, is primarily directed to the company's own rolling mills, whereas a certain amount of the output is also allocated for shipments. It is anticipated that production will reach its full capacity by the end of this week.
